LMCIT loss control consultants are often asked where cities can access chainsaw safety training. The Minnesota Local Technical Assistance Program (MnLTAP) is offering chainsaw safety training at three locations in October:

  • MnDOT Southcentral District Headquarters (Mankato)
    Monday, Oct. 14, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

  • MnDOT Shoreview Training and Conference Center (Shoreview)
    Wednesday, Oct. 16, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

  • MnDOT Baxter Headquarters (Baxter)
    Thursday, Oct. 17, 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

The training covers basic chainsaw safety. Attendees will learn to identify safety features, prevent accidents, sharpen saws correctly, and wear head-to-toe safety protection in accordance with OSHA standards.

Registration information for the chainsaw safety training is on the MnLTAP website.

MnLTAP also offers chainsaw maintenance training at the Empire Maintenance Facility in Rosemount on Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. At this hands-on training, attendees will learn to recognize and identify “field fixable” chainsaw problems versus those requiring expert repair and review how to prevent and repair the most common problems.

Registration information for the chainsaw maintenance training is on the MnLTAP website.
