Legislative Break Time Is a Great Time To Advocate for Cities
The Minnesota Legislature is in recess until April 7. City officials are encouraged to contact their lawmakers to discuss key pieces of legislation during the break.
With the first and second committee deadlines behind them as of March 27, legislators are likely to be in their home districts for Passover and Easter break. They are scheduled to resume work on April 7.
While lawmakers are on break, it is a great opportunity to meet with, call, or email them about issues that are important to cities. City priorities such as bonding and housing are still being considered.

- Read about legislation that is currently being considered.
When legislators return on April 7, they will resume work on individual bills and begin assembling omnibus legislation. They will have 10 days until the third committee deadline, when committees must act favorably on major appropriation and finance bills.
After that, lawmakers will have less than a month to complete their work before the constitutionally mandated adjournment on May 18. Any work beyond that date would require a special session.
