Senators Klobuchar, Smith Open FY 2027 Funding Request Process for Local Projects
Cities can apply for congressionally directed spending through March 27.
The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee has opened the process for fiscal year 2027 congressionally directed spending requests. Minnesota Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith are now accepting applications for projects across the state.
Cities interested in submitting a proposal can access the application portals on the senators’ websites. The deadline to apply is March 27, 2026. Guidance for fiscal year 2027, including a list of eligible funding categories by subcommittee, is also available online.
- Access Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s congressionally directed spending application portal.
- Access Sen. Tina Smith’s congressionally directed spending application portal.
The Senate Appropriations Committee will again limit the number of projects each senator can submit to individual subcommittees. Because of these caps, proposals should clearly meet eligibility requirements and align with program guidelines.
Cities should note:
- All applications must be submitted electronically.
- Congressional offices are required to publicly post project requests and descriptions on their websites.
- Submitting a request does not guarantee funding. Funding is limited, and not all eligible requests will be funded.
- Applications must include a detailed project budget.
- Applicants must comply with any audits or oversight requests from the Government Accountability Office or other federal entities.
A list of projects submitted for fiscal year 2026 is available online and may help cities assess potential eligibility.
