League Continues Work To Support Cities Amid Ongoing Immigration Activity
The League is listening to city leaders and developing resources to help members navigate the municipal impacts of evolving immigration enforcement activity.
As federal immigration enforcement activity continues across Minnesota, the League is working closely with city leaders to help navigate the municipal impacts. We are actively listening to our members, tracking developments, and creating and regularly updating resources to keep local leaders informed.
Conditions are changing quickly, and the League remains in close contact with cities across the state to ensure our guidance and resources are timely, practical, and responsive to local needs.
Resources for cities
The League continues to share resources and information focused on immigration enforcement and its impacts on cities through our Federal Actions FAQs webpage. The page is updated regularly as new information emerges.
How we are engaging with cities
In addition to ongoing conversations with local leaders statewide, the League is taking the following steps to support members:
- Legal and research support: Our legal and research teams are addressing a range of legal questions related to municipal impacts of immigration enforcement. This work includes regular communication with in-house city attorneys and law firms that support League members.
- Regional coordination: League staff have attended meetings with leaders in the metro area and Greater Minnesota to better understand how experiences and challenges differ across regions.
- Partnerships with city organizations: We continue to collaborate closely with partner organizations, including Metro Cities, the Chiefs of Police Association, and other city organizations.
- National collaboration: The League is in regular contact with the National League of Cities to share information and understand federal-level developments. We are also communicating with other state leagues — some seeking insight into Minnesota’s situation and others sharing similar experiences in their states.
