Work Group on Fire Relief Associations Seeks Input From Fire Departments
Fire chiefs can complete an online questionnaire by Oct. 28 to help inform 2027 legislative recommendations.
The Work Group on Vesting and Emergency Medical Providers in Relief Associations and the Statewide Volunteer Firefighter Plan, established by a 2026 session law, has met throughout the summer to develop legislative recommendations affecting firefighter relief associations and the Public Employees Retirement Association’s Statewide Volunteer Firefighter Plan. Read more about the work group.
Potential changes under consideration include reducing the maximum vesting requirement from 20 years to 10 years and requiring relief associations to include members who provide only emergency medical services.
Feedback needed on proposed changes
To help inform the work group as it considers proposals that could incur costs for some cities or affect their relief associations, an online questionnaire is now available for fire chiefs to complete.
The questionnaire follows a survey sent to all cities in September to help guide the work group’s legislative recommendations. Fire departments do not need to complete the questionnaire if they have already participated in the September survey.
The deadline to complete the questionnaire is midnight on Oct. 28.
