Property Tax Reports

2020 Property Tax Data Now Available

The city-by-city tax rate data and tax base composition data tables for payable 2020 became available from the Minnesota Department of Revenue (DOR) in November 2020.

Property tax data for taxes payable in 2017, 2018, and 2019 became available from the DOR in late 2019. Due to the implementation of a new database at DOR, the data was significantly delayed.

The League has compiled the data into simplified tables showing city-by-city tax base and tax rate information for each year, available below.

The League usually publishes a property tax report in the September-October issue of Minnesota Cities magazine, but has been unable to do so the last three years because of the delays.

Usefulness of the data

This property tax information is intended for city officials and staff to use for preparing city budgets, communicating with city residents, and understanding how the tax base and tax rates change over time. The tax tables use data from the Minnesota Department of Revenue to present a wide range of information in an accessible way. City officials and staff can learn the makeup of the local tax base, the different tax rates that apply in their community, and calculate estimated taxes on homes. Historical data is included here to allow for looking at trends over time.
