Overview
As part of a new phase in our Loss Control program analysis, the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT) is partnering with Benchmark Analytics — a Chicago-based research and data firm — to conduct an in-depth study that may ultimately inform member premiums for police liability coverage. This initiative, named the iMPACT Project, has the unanimous support of LMCIT’s Board of Trustees and directly advances several strategic priorities identified at the Board’s most recent retreat, including:
Using data to guide decisions
Developing new products and services for members
Improving identification and prevention of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Why is the research necessary?
Benchmark Analytics is known for developing predictive tools that help identify early indicators of potential misconduct or PTSD risk within law enforcement agencies. These insights support timely intervention, improved officer well-being, and reduced exposure to costly claims.
Through iMPACT, Benchmark will work with LMCIT to:
Develop targeted loss control interventions
Evaluate the effectiveness of current strategies
Project future risk management needs using credible data
Their analysis will draw on information from LMCIT, member agencies, Benchmark’s national database, and public sources. Findings will be used only in aggregate — the study is not designed to evaluate or underwrite individual departments.
The results will help LMCIT:
Strengthen its loss control program
Prioritize evidence-based risk management practices
Inform future training content (including Loss Control Workshops and PATROL)
