City Finance Lab is a one-day blended learning program designed specifically for Minnesota cities with populations of 2,500 or less. Through practical examples, hands-on exercises, and demonstrations, you’ll build a strong foundation in the finance and accounting skills you need to support your city.
City Finance Lab is ideal for new clerks and finance staff in small cities, as well as experienced staff looking to refresh their skills. You’ll leave with greater confidence in governmental accounting and a clearer understanding of your city’s financial requirements.
By attending City Finance Lab, you will:
- Understand the basics of fund accounting and how it applies to city finances
- Practice bank reconciliation to balance your accounts
- Understand key payroll responsibilities and why accuracy matters
- Review the steps involved in preparing for an audit
- Understand the city budgeting process and how to carry it out with confidence
Format
Three online, on-demand courses will be available beginning Nov. 12. Complete them before the in-person session so you’re ready to dive into practical examples, hands-on exercises, and demonstrations you can apply in your day-to-day work.
