Registration Now Open for Fall Loss Control Workshops

August 24, 2023

The affordable trainings are designed to help cities reduce costs and avoid losses.

Starting first is Peer Support Training in Duluth on Sept. 26, with additional dates in November, followed by Cybersecurity Essentials and TSO for Firefighters in October.

Peer Support

The League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT) is sponsoring a Department of Public Safety (DPS)-approved Peer Support Training that meets the DPS 30-hour requirement for anyone wanting to become a public safety peer to peer counselor in Minnesota. This training will consist of two consecutive days of in-person training as well as online learning. In addition to the foundational concepts of being a peer support team member, attendees will also learn the basics of setting up and maintaining the team, how to conduct defusings at your agency, and options for clinical consultation for your team.

The Duluth training will be presented by Dr. Heather Rose-Carlson, a board-certified clinical psychologist who has worked with military, first responders, and critical incidents for more than 20 years. The Brainerd and New Ulm trainings will be presented by Marie Ridgeway who specializes in working with law enforcement and first responders to provide mental health care, wellness programming, and consulting services.

From the TSO training, attendees will:

  • Understand their role and responsibilities of a Training Safety Officer and enhance their communication, interaction, decision-making, and support skills.
  • Receive a framework to build upon in their individual fire departments to meet each department’s unique needs.
