Stressful Situations: Financial Crisis

Examples of behavior:

  • The city or county experiences a financial or infrastructure crisis that leads to fears of rapid tax or rate increases. Examples include the need to replace failing water or sanitary sewer systems in small communities, or paying for infrastructure that was built in anticipation of new development that failed or was delayed.

Concern:
Financial crises can result in finger pointing—“who caused this and how can we punish them” rather than “how can we work together to fix this?”
