State Announces 2018 Police and Fire State Aid Amounts

These state aids generally assist with police and fire pension costs.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue has posted information about the distribution of Fire State Aid and Police State Aid amounts for 2018. The amounts of these state aids are computed in late September each year, and distributions are made by Oct. 1.

Fire State Aid

Fire State Aid assists local units of government and fire relief associations with the cost of firefighter pensions. It is distributed to municipalities and fire departments with paid or volunteer firefighters or with a combination of paid and volunteer firefighters. The program will distribute a total of $35.1 million for 2018.

Police State Aid

Police State Aid assists local units of government with police officer pension costs and is distributed on a per-officer basis. The program will distribute a total of $84.4 million for 2018.
