Mark your calendars and save the date for the League’s 2020 Legislative Conference, March 18-19 in St. Paul! This is your yearly chance to sit down with your city colleagues and discuss what’s going on at the Capitol, advocate for city priorities, get updates on legislation impacting cities, explore the new political environment, and meet with your legislators.

Get a head start on the action by coming to St. Paul Wednesday afternoon. You’ll have the opportunity to choose from pre-conference sessions on housing, tips on how to advocate at the Capitol, or other hot topics. Then, you’ll join your city colleagues, state legislators, and League staff for a reception at the Rathskeller Café.

On Thursday, you’ll have a packed schedule, including:

  • News from the governor’s office.
  • Details on legislation from the League’s intergovernmental relations staff.
  • Updates on how city priorities are faring at a federal level.
  • What to expect during a bonding year, and your part in the process.
  • A look at Minnesota’s political landscape from some of the new faces in the Capitol press pool.
  • Opportunities to schedule meetings with your legislators and share your city’s stories.
  • Time to network and connect with city officials from across the state.

Your city has a voice! Don't miss your chance to share it.

—AGENDA

It’s never too early to schedule a meeting with your legislators! Start planning your trip to the Capitol by arranging time to meet with your legislators during the reception at the Rathskeller Café on March 18 or during the afternoon on March 19.

Need contact information for your legislators? Visit the Minnesota Senate website and the Minnesota House of Representatives website to find your legislators.

Tips for getting in touch with your legislators:

  • Earlier is better! Schedules fill up quickly — make sure you’re on the calendar early to help ensure you have a quality meeting with your legislators.
  • If this is the first time you’re meeting with your legislators, try setting up a meeting through their legislative assistant. You can find assistants’ phone numbers on the legislators’ webpages.
  • Can’t find details for someone’s legislative assistant? Try calling your legislator before emailing them — people tend to have more luck when setting up meetings over the phone.
  • Schedule more time with your legislators! Come down early and meet with your legislators on Wednesday, followed by a reception at the Rathskeller Cafe at the State Capitol.
  • Sometimes larger groups have more luck scheduling time with legislators. View the conference registration list (pdf), updated weekly, to see who else from your area is coming.
