City Engineers: Get Guidance on Title VI of the Civil Rights Act

May 18, 2021

Title VI requires that when state and local governments receive federal funds, their programs must not discriminate based on race, color, or national origin.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is offering an informational webinar for city engineers and engineering staff on the topic of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This webinar is specifically for city engineers and staff in cities that have received Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) funds through MnDOT.

Cities that receive FHWA funding must comply with Title VI, which prohibits federally funded programs from discriminating against members of the public based on race, color, or national origin.

MnDOT’s subrecipient reviews

As part of its oversight responsibilities, MnDOT conducts periodic reviews of subrecipients to ensure compliance with Title VI regulatory requirements. These compliance checks are called “subrecipient reviews.”
