Get New Information on Racial Equity Issues Related to COVID-19

Communities of color have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, so the League offers resources to help cities respond with race equity in mind.

Two updates — about a Presidential Memorandum condemning racism, and about the distribution of vaccines — have been added to the League’s web page on race equity related to COVID-19.

President condemns racism

President Biden issued a Presidential Memorandum on Jan. 26 condemning the increase in racism, xenophobia, and intolerance against the Asian American and Pacific Islander community since the pandemic began. The president recognized the role the federal government has played in furthering the xenophobic sentiments.

Vaccine distribution

The League also added a new question to the FAQs about ensuring that people of color have access to the COVID-19 vaccines.

Communities of color have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, so it’s important for cities to keep race equity in mind when making vaccine decisions. There are examples of local governments that are making an intentional effort to ensure race equity in the vaccine distribution and rollout.
