Technical Advisory Group Addresses Building Permit Fees and Energy Code Legislation

The group will make recommendations to the Department of Labor and Industry on proposed legislation affecting building codes.

The Department of Labor and Industry’s (DLI) Building Code Series 1 Technical Advisory Group (TAG), which is responsible for reviewing and making recommendations on proposed building codes, met for the first time on Nov. 9 via WebEx.

The TAG didn’t discuss the bills at this meeting but will do so at the next meeting. Upcoming meetings are scheduled for Nov. 23 and Dec. 7. Anyone can attend these meetings.

City representation

This TAG has 11 members. Members representing cities are Irene Kao, League of Minnesota Cities; Charlie Vander Aarde, Metro Cities; and Brian Hoffman, City of St. Louis Park.

Background on TAGs

TAGs are typically comprised of subject matter experts that make recommendations to the Construction Code Advisory Council, which then makes recommendations to the DLI commissioner. This TAG has a broader scope than others.
