This week’s program will be a mix of on-demand MemberLearn sessions and an in-person Zoom session. Please take the on-demand MemberLearn sessions prior to joining the live Zoom session.

Please note: You will be able to choose from two different times for the live Zoom session, and your selection must be made in MemberLearn between January 14 – 22. You will be able to log on to your MemberLearn account  using your MyLMC account starting on January 14.

Risk and Legal Obligation of Cities

Core competencies: integrity & ethics, strategic planning & decision-makingmanaging risk

Explore city operations through the lens of a legal landscape. This course will help you understand your role in managing legal risk for your city including conflict of interest, data practices, and purchasing missteps. Please note: this MemberLearn session can be completed at any time, but it is best to complete it before this week’s Zoom session.

On-Demand MemberLearn Session:
Social Media for Elected Officials

Core competencies: communication, community engagement, managing risk
(Seat time: approximately 20 minutes)

Social media is a great tool for communicating with and engaging your community. This course will help you understand the legal considerations of best practices, benefits, and potential pitfalls of social media use as an elected official. Please note: this MemberLearn session can be completed at any time, but it is best to complete it before this week’s Zoom session.

Risk and Legal Obligation of Cities in Context

Register in MemberLearn for the time that works for you:
Feb. 11 — 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
Feb. 12 — 8:30-9:45 a.m.

Patricia Beety, the League’s general counsel, will lead you through a discussion of common legal scenarios that elected leaders may face, including considerations around social media. You’ll spend part of the session in an online breakout room with other participants and a League subject matter expert where you’ll get a chance to share questions, hear from others, and meet League staff. Please note: these sessions build on information learned during this week’s MemberLearn sessions. It is recommended that you complete these on-demand sessions in MemberLearn ahead of this one.
