Ethical Use of Computers and Databases

Now available: A FREE web-based course for all Minnesota law enforcement!

Computers and databases have increased efficiency in law enforcement by making tasks less time consuming. As use of these tools increase, it is likely that law enforcement officials will have more and more questions about responsibilities and policies associated with their use.

The League of Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT) has now made available a web-based course addressing the “Ethical Use of Computers and Databases” through its online training program Peace officer Accredited TRaining OnLine (PATROL). This course is approved for one POST credit and will provide officers with the information necessary to use computers and law enforcement databases without running afoul of state or federal laws, or department policies.
