Site Features & Tips

ADA Compliance
The site is compliant with all priority one requirements, as well as most priority two requirements, as set forth in the W3C's recommendations for web content accessibility guidelines. The site, therefore, complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act in that it is navigable and viewable by non-graphical, text-only browsers. Although there are a large number of .pdf documents on this site, they are accessible in a text-only format by using Adobe Acrobat's free .pdf converter tool located at http://access.adobe.com/simple_form.html. Simply enter the url address of the .pdf you'd like to convert to a text-only format, and the Adobe Converter will do the rest.

Browser Compatibility
The site can be viewed using either Internet Explorer (version 4.0 and higher) or Netscape Navigator (4.5 or higher). Free downloads are available of the latest version of either browser.

For best viewing, however, it is recommended that your computer should be enabled to read javascript.

Necessary Software

Adobe Acrobat Reader

Many of the research documents on the web site are in adobe acrobat .pdf format, so you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them. Acrobat Reader is free and can be downloaded from the Internet.

Audio/Video Player

All video legislative reports compiled by our Intergovernmental Relations Staff require Windows Media to open and view online. Windows Media is free and available for download from the Internet. It also comes bundled with Internet Explorer, so you already may have it loaded on your computer.

Site Navigation
The site is broken into sections. Each main section is listed at the top of each page in the menu bar, and at the bottom of every page in the form of text links. Each main section is made up of one or more focused areas that can be found as links on the left-hand side of every page.

For faster navigation you may search the entire site at any time, or any of the site's other searchable databases, by clicking on the dropdown search box in the left-hand corner of every page.
